Fred Dunlap And Frank Grant

Frank Grant, an African-American baseball player in the 1880's, played with Meriden in the Eastern League, Harrisburg in the Atlantic League, and Buffalo in the International League among other teams. Lawrence Hogan, in Shades of Glory, wrote that "a sportswriter referred to (Grant) as the 'Black Dunlap', a very flattering comparison to Fred Dunlap...considered the best-fielding big-league second baseman of his day." In 2006, Frank Grant was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Without judging Grant's qualifications for the Hall of Fame, it must be considered the height of irony that the "Black Dunlap" is in the Hall but the actual Dunlap isn't.
